Two people walking an empty sand beach with day boats moored offshore

Trawangan · Meno · Air in one day

The classic three-island loop

One private boat around all three Gilis — turtle snorkelling, the underwater statues between Meno and Trawangan, and coral gardens. Booked by the boat, not the seat.

A Gili island-hopping charter is a private boat you book by the boat, not the seat, looping Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air for turtle snorkelling, the underwater statues and coral gardens.

  • The three islands sit close together in the Lombok Strait, so one boat links all three in a day.
  • Locally they are "Gili Indah" — small beautiful islands — and have been one village since 2010.
  • You choose the stop order, how long you linger, and whether the day ends at sunset.
  • The dry season, May to September, brings the calmest seas and clearest water.

On every hop day

What a hopping charter includes

The whole boat, a captain who knows the reefs, and a route you shape rather than a fixed shared timetable.

The whole boat

Your group only, for the window you book. No seats resold.

A captain who knows the reefs

He sequences the loop against the light and the crowds.

A route you shape

Stop order, how long at each site, and whether you end at sunset.

Snorkel gear aboard

Masks, fins and life jackets, in adult and child sizes.

The right hull

Glass-bottom for shallow reef, speedboat for distance, catamaran for comfort.

Fuel for the day

Fuel for the itinerary you agree before you board.

Each island has a job

The Trawangan–Meno–Air loop

The most-booked itinerary combines each island's strongest asset. Captains run the quieter reefs early, the busier island at lunch, and an open western view for the return.

Gili Trawangan

Largest and busiest, with the most facilities. Best as a lunch stop, a departure or return base, and for lively beach time.

Gili Meno

Quiet and undeveloped, with arguably the best beaches. Best for turtle snorkelling, the underwater statue site and calm swimming.

Gili Air

Relaxed, with laid-back bars and thriving reefs. Best for coral gardens, unhurried reef snorkelling and sunset.

Turtles and the underwater statues

Green and hawksbill turtles are commonly encountered on the reefs around Gili Meno and Gili Air. The underwater statues — a submerged sculpture site between Meno and Trawangan — are one of the most-marketed snorkel stops in the group.

One honest caveat: wild sightings are never guaranteed. Turtles are free-swimming animals and no reputable captain promises them.

What a good charter does is stack the odds — visiting known feeding reefs at the right state of tide, in the clear water the dry season provides.

When to run the loop

May to August brings clear skies and warm temperatures. June and July are the busiest weeks, so book ahead if your dates fall there.

September still has good weather with occasional showers and is the quieter, better-value month.

October to April is not recommended — regular rainfall can disrupt travel and roughen the water.

During Ramadan some shops close and the beach parties pause, which makes the islands noticeably quieter. Worth knowing if a lively sunset matters to your day.

Four steps

How booking works

  1. Send your day

Dates, group size, and any must-see stops — turtles, statues, sunset.

  2. Get a quote

A tailored itinerary and one per-boat price, confirmed for your dates.

  3. Confirm the jetty

The Gilis are vehicle-free, so you walk or take a cidomo from the jetty to your beach.

  4. Run your loop

Meet your captain on the day and take the route at your own pace.

No fixed tariff and no guaranteed turtle promises — just a private boat built around your day.
