Meno Wall and Turtle Point
East Gili Meno. The most consistent of the four — a shallow reef flat with a gentle drift and common green turtles.
Meno and Trawangan reef flats
A private boat built around the reef flats where green and hawksbill turtles feed most days. You book the whole boat and route straight to the calmest, clearest points instead of following a group schedule.
A Gili Islands turtle snorkeling charter is a private boat trip built around the reef flats off Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan, where green and hawksbill turtles feed most days.
Four flats, ranked by how often
Reliability here means how often turtles are reported, not a guarantee. Sightings vary day to day with tide, weather and how many boats have already passed.
East Gili Meno. The most consistent of the four — a shallow reef flat with a gentle drift and common green turtles.
Turtles plus the underwater sculptures on one leg. Needs a calm current, so it is a slack-tide stop.
A bigger reef with more boat traffic. Go early — by mid-morning the fleet has been through.
Quieter and thriving, but better as a second stop than a first.
Early morning wins. Seas are flattest before the wind builds, and the sun is high enough to light the reef by around 8 to 9am.
You also beat the mid-morning fleet. Booking a private boat is what lets you leave at first light rather than wait on a group departure.
For season: May to August brings clear skies and warm temperatures, with June and July busy enough to book ahead. September is quieter and better value with occasional showers.
October to April is not recommended — regular rainfall disrupts travel and clouds the water.
Non-negotiable
Sea turtles must surface to breathe, and crowding or touching them causes real stress. A private captain can enforce these rules because it is your boat, not a packed group.
No touching, no chasing, no riding. Stay at least three to four metres away.
If it swims up to breathe, back off and let it through.
No flash photography, and keep your fins away from the coral and the animal.
Applied at least twenty minutes before you enter the water.
The Gilis are vehicle-free and marine litter drifts straight onto these reefs.
Your group only, which is the single biggest thing a private boat changes.
Pack list
Boats carry basic snorkel gear, life vests and drinking water as standard. Bringing your own mask almost always improves the experience.
Long time on the water. Protects you and the reef.
A better seal than shared gear, and less fogging over the turtle points.
The statue site and the turtles are the shots you came for.
Vehicle-free jetties mean carrying your own kit ashore.
Half-day trips have limited shade. Stay hydrated.
Small island warungs and cidomo rides are cash-only.
Four steps
Your dates, group size, and that turtles are the priority.

A per-boat quote with start point, timing and exactly what is included.
Meet your captain at the agreed jetty and adjust live to where turtles are being seen that morning.
No fake sighting guarantees — just the boat and the timing that give you the best shot.
